The Most Beautiful Restaurant in the World: Berggasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is find a restaurant with a great view. There are many fantastic eateries in the world with awe-inspiring scenery - Villa Tre Ville in Positano, Siroco in Bangkok, Ithaa Undersea in the Maldives - but Berggasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli in Weissbad, Switzerland definitely tops my list as the most beautiful.

Located in the Appenzell Alps, Berggasthaus is a 170 year old restaurant built into a mountainside and nestled between rolling green hills. To get there, you can either drive, or take the train, to the Wasserauen train station. Across the street from the train station is the Wasserauen-Ebenalp cable car. Take the cable car up to the top for 31 CHF / per adult, 12 CHF / per child, and 10 CHF / per dog round-trip.

At the top, it is a short 15 minute hike to Berggasthaus, just follow the signs to Wildkirchli and Ascher.

The scenery at the top is absolutely stunning. The majestic Swiss Alps intertwine with the greener than green hillsides to create one of the most picturesque landscape you've ever seen.

Along the hike you will pass through a cave...

Once you exit the cave, round the corner, and there it is! Spectacular Berggasthaus Aescher-Wildkirchli in all its glory.

Enjoy a traditional Rosti lunch on the outdoor patio, and soak up the abundance of pretty views.

If the weather is less than cooperative, head inside and eat in the quaint dining room. If it does rain, don't let it discourage you from traveling to Berggasthaus. Put on some rain boots, pack an umbrella, and experience one of the most gorgeous places in the world.

The restaurant is open from 7:30am to 9:00pm daily from the 1st of May until the 30th of November. During the month of November, Berggasthaus is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Be sure to check the official website to verify hours of operation, events, and updates.
